The Boys Soccer team (10-8) defeated Bethesda Christian 2-0 in the IHSAA Sectional #41 final on Saturday night at BCS. The Warriors overcame wet and foggy conditions and an unconventional team strategy by the Patriots to limit Covenant’s fire power to win their fifth straight sectional title.
Senior Maclain Hastings opened the scoring from 30 yards out, as he headed a pass from Senior Noah Martin into the right side net over the Patriots’ goalkeeper 18 minutes into the first half. BCS was content to play defense for much of the game, but Covenant Senior Braden Havics added an insurance goal in traffic early in the second half.
Covenant will now move on to Class 1A Regional #11 at Knightstown HS on Saturday, October 13. The Warriors will face Sectional #43 champion at 10:00 am. The Sectional #43 final, between Central Christian Academy (11-3) and Christel House Watanabe (7-2), was postponed until Monday. The other side of the Regional #11 bracket will have the Sectional #42 champion Seton Catholic HS (17-0) take on Sectional #44 champion Greenwood Christian Academy (14-3-1) on Saturday at noon. SCHS defeated Centerville HS 10-0 in their sectional final, while GCA eliminated Southwestern 3-1 in their final.
